Birmingham Bound

So 2 brave moms, with 3 sweet kiddos and a mini van headed out on the open road, bound for Birmingham.  We made a day of it at a random waterpark I found online in Bessemer, AL.  Keatyn's little stature would have kept us on the kiddie slides all day, so we left her with the grands at home. We were going for a World Tae-Kwon-Do Championship and asked if the Moffitts wanted to make a road trip out of it. The tournament ended up being about an hour out of our mini vaca, and didn't produce any medals this time for my little man :(  but he didn't seem to care too much.

Love these 3...

Ever heard of Bessemer, AL?  Yeah, us either.  Turns out there's a really nice, clean waterpark there that we practically had to ourselves.

The kids were thrilled to find a free sunscreen station!

Waiting in line for Wipeout on the hottest concrete I've ever put my feet on.  Everything's apparently hotter in Alabama.

So after waiting patiently for over 30 minutes on scorching hot pavement, they said Madelyn was too small to do it without an adult.  Poor Trace would have been out of luck, but Mandi, being the super mom she is, suited up in a child size harness and climbed in the ring.  No woman should ever be forced to wear a swim suit and a harness at the same time. God bless her.

We stayed for about 7 hours and then headed to the hotel.  Where lots of "gaming" happened.
This was a little disturbing for Mandi and I both.  Ha!

Our hotel was in the UAB campus right across from the hospital, so we walked down to dinner.  Welcome to Moes!!!

The next morning, Alex, Trace and I hit the lobby for a breakfast of champions, Cocoa Puffs and Combos, before the tournament.

Alex was so sweet to want to come watch Trace.  I wish it had turned out a little better.

And of course, we ordered the poster of Trace holding some sort of weapon in front of the flame.  How could one resist?!?
When I called to book the hotel, a priority was having a pool for Madelyn to swim in while we were at the tournament.  I know, I KNOW the receptionist that answered the phone said there was indeed a pool on the premises, but turns out there wasn't.  They were nice enough to give us passes to the UAB Rec Center a few blocks away.  WOW!  This was the coolest place.  The pool was amazing and they spent a few hours in it before we headed home.
Then we hit the rock climbing wall before we left.  They did so good!

We had such a good time and it was a great summer get away with friends!  Hope to do it again soon.
